Windows of Heaven has its roots in Houston, TX. It began in 1996 when my friend of many years and I opened a Catholic Christian book store. We named the store Theodore’s ‘Gift of God’ for her deceased husband.
I purchased her share several years into the endeavor and I moved the store to Woodland Park Colorado where I am closer to my children.
I renamed the store Windows of Heaven because of an experience I had as a 6 year old. Because of religious conflict my parents never mentioned God. But one day, just before I entered 1st grade in a Catholic school, my Dad took me outside and holding my hand, pointed to the sky and said, ”there is a God up there.” As I looked up I experienced the most wonderful sensation, as if the sky opened and even though I had never heard the word blessing, I knew something good was happening to me. As Dad let go of my hand God took it and has never let go. That is why the scripture in Malachi (3:10) became significant for me. “Will I not open the windows of Heaven and pour out an abundant blessing for you”.
When we opened Theodore’s ‘Gift of God’ we each felt God calling us to serve all Christians. Windows of Heaven’s store and the web store continues the call to serve all Christians. I invite all who find the peace, love and joy of God in these offerings to shop at the store in Woodland Park or call me directly at 719-686-0797 so that I may be of further assistance to you.
At the original store our customers decided where our store tithe would go each month. We provided a ‘Blessing Bowl’ for our customers to write down the name of their church or charity. Once a month a customer drew from the “Blessing Bowl” and that is where the store tithe went. Windows of Heaven continues that invitation, I will let you know on Windows of Heaven’s facebook page the winner each month.
